Analysis
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

John Lennon
John Lennon was born in Liverpool, England on October 9th 1940. As John turned sixteen, Elvis Presly's rock talents inspired him to create a band called the Quarry's Men. When he was 17, he invited Paul McCartney to join his music group which sparked the creation of The Beatles. Many years later in 1969, John quit The Beatles and started creating music with the help of his wife, Yoko Ono. This is when he released the album which contained Imagine, one of the most iconic songs of all time.

Figures of Speech:
-There is an
apostrophe
in line thirteen where he says, "you may say I'm a dreamer." This is an apostrophe because he is not addressing someone who is actually there in the moment, but an imaginary figure.
-In line sixteen of the song, there is a
simile
that sums up the message that John is delivering to the audience. The phrase: "And the world will be as one," describes the dream he imagines for himself and the rest of society.
-There are two
allusions
in the first verse (lines one and three) that refer directly to the bible. He brings religion into the song to describe the seemingly useless conflicts that it creates, and
this is the first of many cases in the song that
he discusses this topic

When John Lennon was shot and killed on December 8th, 1980, it was a tragic and horrific day for all of him fans, which at the time, was most of the English speaking world. He was an inspiration to most of the famous rock and roll artists from the 90's, pop singers from the 2000's and even some of the music stars that are up-and-coming today. The Beatles are often described as the best band to have ever existed, and with John being the lead singer, he was a major influence on the music industry at the time. Even today, he is still inspiring and fufilling people's love of music all around the world, with songs like
Imagine
to pass on his beliefs and thoughts about society.
This song is a representation of the fact that there is another way to live our lives. We don't have to hate and kill but we can learn to live in peace and harmony. He believed the first step to living in a greater world is being able to imagine what it would be like, and then being able to take action. John Lennon believed that there one sole race and nationality, and all other things such as religion and separate countries are just borders created by mankind to separate each other
