Transcript of My Instructional Approach to Teaching English.

This is not me. Nor will it ever be. Thank goodness. What should be taught in English class? How should English class be taught? Let's try something different. What are the alternatives? I believe you can learn with your students. "There is, in fact, no teaching without learning. One requires the other."
-Paulo Freire, Pedagogy of Freedom While I serve as a resource for my students, I am not the be all and end all. Our students are not the
way they used to be. That's okay. But wait. This is English class! Will we still... Write? And learn grammar? Read? In a simple word: Yup. We will also... analyze. create. question. view. perform. and change. Some say knowledge
is a gift. I disagree.
Knowledge is created, not given. What will we study in this course? Knowledge. Power. "Knowledge emerges only through invention and re-invention, through the restless, impatient, continuing, hopeful inquiry human beings pursue in the world, with the world, and with each other."
— Paulo Freire (Pedagogy of the Oppressed) "Education either functions as an instrument which is used to facilitate integration of the younger generation into the logic of the present system and bring about conformity or it becomes the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world."
—Paulo Freire (Pedagogy of the Oppressed) And the roles you play within each concept. Think beyond the lines. ? ? ? ?
