Armstrong continued to front big bands, often of lesser quality, until 1947, when the big-band era ended. His friends would call him Satchmo it was short for satchel mouth because the way he puffed his cheeks when he played his trumpet. By 1932, Armstrong had begun appearing in movies and made his first tour of England. He got a heart attack while traveling in Spoleto, Italy, but I didn’t stop him. After he got recovered he went back to doing shows. When Louis was born his dad left him. So his mom would leave him frequently with his grandmother.
