Born on August 4, 1901 in New Orleans Died on July 6, 1971 He shot his stepfather gun so he was sent away during 1912. His mom name was Mary Albert, and his dad was William Armstrong. His childhood was very difficult. Was obligated to leave school. He only made it to fifth grade because he had to go work. Fell in love with the cornet at Colored Waif's Home. Got released 2 years later 1914 and started with his music career. Even if he is dead his stature has only continued to grow. In 1918 got with the most popular band and stopped working for the labor and got concentrated with his career. Heart and kidney problems forced him to stop performing in 1969. Armstrong continued to front big bands, often of lesser quality, until 1947, when the big-band era ended. His friends would call him Satchmo it was short for satchel mouth because the way he puffed his cheeks when he played his trumpet. By 1932, Armstrong had begun appearing in movies and made his first tour of England. He got a heart attack while traveling in Spoleto, Italy, but I didn’t stop him. After he got recovered he went back to doing shows. When Louis was born his dad left him. So his mom would leave him frequently with his grandmother. He is known for history, and the man most responsible for transforming jazz from a regional sound to a major American art form.
