Nat King Cole played in paving the way for African American performers in this country. He is an example of success in the face of adversity. For much of America, this was the first television exposure to an African American artist. Nat King Cole was born in Montgomery, Alabama. He first learned to play the piano around the age of 4yo with the help of his mother,a church choir director. The son of a pastor, Cole may have started out playing religious music. IN HIS EARLY TEENS,COLE HAD FORMAL CLASSIC PIANO TRAINING WHICH HE SOON ABANDONED FOR HIS OTHER MUSICAL PASSION-JAZZ. EARL HINES WAS NATE COLES BIGGEST INSPIRATION.COLE DROPPED OUT OF SCHOOL AT THE AGE OF 15 TO BECOME A FULL TIME PIANIST. At 12 he was playing the church organ and at 14 he formed a 14 piece band called the Royal Dukes. Nat was a top flight sandlot baseball player at Wendell Phillips high school in Chicago. Why Should This Person Be Regarded As A Moral Leader? he should be regarded because he did thing others wouldn't even dream of doing because of all the negativity that could happen scince there was segregation back then which restricted blacks from many things such as making a television show. What Strong Character Traits Does This Person Possess? Ambitious-Eager to succeed; full of desire
He is ambitious because he wouldn't give up on his career no matter what happened or got in his way.

Brave-Having or showing courage
he is brave because he went through a lot to get what he may have deserved in life.

Charismatic-Showing a special ability to lead people, win people's devotion
I think he is charismatic because if he wouldnt have steped up to be the first black to become a famous singer, then i dont think anyone else would have. How Have These Traits Impacted His Leadership? If he wasn't ambitious or brave he would not have when against his wills to make a television show or a radio station. If he wasn't charismatic he would have quit when times got hard. Nat's Death In 1964, Cole discovered that he had lung cancer. He succumbed, died, to the disease just months later on Feb. 15th, 1965 at the age of 45, in Santa Monica, California. Nate's Death continued .... His funeral was held a few days later in Los Angeles. http://www.scribd.com/doc/21422849/Characteristic-List-Definitions http://www.biography.com/people/nat-king-cole-9253026?page=1 SOFA Entertainment.
