Katrina Elizabeth DiCamillo,
was born in Philadelphia. Soon after birth her doctors found out she suffered from chronic pneumonia. At age 5 Kate moved to florida. Kate and her family (besides her father) left for Cermont, Florida because of her pneumonia. The warmer weather has been known to help pneumonia patients. Her father never rejoined the family after deciding to stay for his orthodontic business. At age 30 Kate moved to Minneapolis and began working at a book warehouse. Kate got her college degree in English in
1987 and worked in Florida after graduation Because of her working there she met a sales representative for Candlewick Press, After that she sent in a draft that would later become "Because of Winn-Dixie". Because of Winn-Dixie was published in the year 2000 and won the Newbery Honor Book award.
It was made into a movie and came into theaters in 2005. There she became inspired to write children books. The Tiger Rising (2001) She wrote her next book a year later, it was called "The Tiger Rising" and was a finalist in the National Book Awards. The story follows him through all of his owners, jobs, and even silly costumes. Mercy Watson Goes for a Ride 2006 Being the 2 out of 3 books written in 2006 it is the also the 2 book in the Mercy Watson series. Mercy Watson Fights Crime 2006 Another adventure starring the porky wonder. One night, Mercy awakes to the sound of the toaster scraping along the kitchen counter, which can only mean one thing–someone is making toast. Her life revolves around hot buttered toast, so she heads for the kitchen. There she finds a little man in a ten-gallon hat stealing the toaster along with other household items. won the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award for Fiction Bink and Gollie 2010 Bink & Gollie: Two for One 2012 Style Bink and Golly is the first book in yet another series that Kate is writing Bink & Gollie: Two for One was co-written with Alison McGhee. Today Kate is 48 no husband or kids and is still writing children books. Kate Dicamillo has a very unique style of writing, Her writing flows easily so that you can follow along with the story. She also uses a lot of description to really help you visualize your surroundings. Lastly she is very creative, her plots, ideas, and twists are truly unforgettable! The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane Because of Winn Dixie Because of Winn Dixie was about a young girl named Opal who saves a dog. But this is no ordinary dog. He takes Opal on many adventures and helps her make many new friends along the way. The Magician's Elephant is about a boy in search of his sister after he finds out she is not dead. On his search he encounters many new freinds encluding one very mysterious elephant. The Magician's Elephant The Tale of Desperaux The Tale of Desperaux was about a mouse who believed he was a man instead of a mouse. He even falls in love with a human princess! But, things like this do not go unpunished in the mouse world.
