Mitochondria converts the chemical energy in food into compounds that are more convenient for the cell to use.
& The Death Star
The Cell Theory
1.All living organisms are made up of cells
2. Cells are the basic unit of all life
3. New cells are made from existing cells
The reactor core (power generator) in the Death Star creates all the power in the cell just as the mitochondria converts chemical energy into convenient energy for the cell.
The vesicle takes the packaged materials and transports them outside of the cell.
Inside the plasma membrane, there is a jelly like substance that keeps all parts of the cell spaced apart appropriately.
Just like the cytoplasm, the oxygen as well as the walls in the Death Star separates rooms just like the cytoplasm creates space and separates organelles.
The cell membrane surrounds the cell and protects it as well as supporting the shape of the cell. There is a double layer of phospholipids to support the cell called a bi-layer.
The nucleus is the control center of the cell. It contains almost all of the cell's DNA.
The Nucleus is like the control center on the Death Star. Everything that happens on the space station gets its orders from the control center just like everything that happens in the cell gets its orders from the nucleus.
In the endoplasmic reticulum is where lipid components are assembled. Other components of the cell that are to be exported out are also assembled here.
Lysosomes and Peroxisomes-
The golgi apparatus sorts, modifies, and packages proteins along with other materials from the endoplasmic reticulum. From here, the packaged materials can be stored in the cell or sent outside the cell wall.
Vacuoles store supplies such as water, salts, proteins, and carbohydrates so that the cell can use them at a later time.
This garbage compactor breaks down garbage just like the lysosomes in cells break down molecules.
Engineering and astromech droids both travel around the Death Star building/fixing equipment, ships, programs, and even other droids. Astromech droids have the ability to fix equipment while engineering droids do the building of programs, ships, other droids, and equipment. The droids create other equipment vital to the Death Star just like the ribosomes create proteins vital to the cell.
Ribosomes produce proteins from the instructions they are given by the nucleus.

The cytoskeleton is a network of proteins that helps the cell support itself and maintain its shape.
The centriole organizes the movement of chromosomes and where they belong in the cell.
Governor Tarkin is the Nucleolus because he knows all the information the keeps the Death Star functioning just like the nucleolus in the cell contains the cells DNA to keep it functioning.
The guards protect the control center from danger just as the nuclear envelope protects the nucleus from things that could harm it.
The imperial ship transports passengers as well as supplies outside and around the Death Star just as a vesicle transports packaged materials outside the cell.
The Death Star's outer walls have many layers to hold in oxygen and to help hold the shape of the space station.
The containers around the Death Star hold supplies so that they can be used later just like the vacuole holds supplies for the cell that it will need later.
Stormtroopers and other workers (including droids) sort and modify equipment before they are sent to storage or sent out of the cell.
Beams and walls throughout the death star support the shape of the large space station just as the cytoskeleton supports the cell with proteins.
The highest ranking officials in the Death Star control where droids and troopers are assigned to eat, sleep, and work just like the centrioles that tell chromosomes where to go.
Peroxisomes are very similar to lysosomes. Peroxisomes breakdown and digest materials that are toxic to the cell.
This alien breaks down toxic materials in the death star just like peroxisomes break down toxic material in the cell.
The small lysosome organelles are filled with enzymes that cleanup the cell. They can digest and breakdown molecules so they can be recycled and
utilized in the
rest of the
Diffusion: Molecules that move and collide together and disperse substances.
Osmosis: The diffusion of water with no energy needed.
Cell Membrane (cont.)
Facilitated diffusion is the process of molecules using proteins to travel from a source of high concentration low concentration.
Active transport is the process of a cell using ATP (energy) to pump molecules into a high concentration.
The many docking bays throughout the Death Star allow ships to come and go through the outer defenses just as proteins allow molecules to pass through them from higher concentration to lower concentration. Sometimes, the Death Star pulls ships in with their tractor beam and uses energy to allow ships in. In cells, ATP (energy) is also used to pull in molecules when there is already more molecules inside than outside of the cell.
(Proteins are made in ribosomes).
In the endoplasmic reticulum there are two different types of proteins, the rough endoplasmic reticulum and the smooth endoplasmic reticulum. The rough ER synthesizes proteins and has ribosomes on its surface while the smooth ER synthesizes lipids.
The Death Star has many workers that create weapons, programs, and other supplies for the space station. Just like the rough endoplasmic reticulum that synthesizes proteins. (Contains ribosomes that synthesize proteins).
Proteins that are made by ribosomes are transported to the cell membrane.
Carbohydrates check molecules before they go in and out of the cell. Similarly, the invisible shield before the docking bays only lets ships in and not space debris.
(carbohydrates come from the golgi apparatus).
(Phospholipids are synthesized in the smooth endoplasmic reticulum).
Ribosomes are not only on the rough endoplasmic reticulum, but they can also be found by themselves in the cytoplasm
