Transcript of Water Contamination In America

By: Eli Seams, Samhita Anapu, and Lilian Robinson
Dirty water is the world's biggest health risk, and continues to threaten both quality of life and public health in the United States. When water from rain and melting snow runs off roofs and roads into our rivers, it picks up toxic chemicals, dirt, trash and disease-carrying organisms along the way. Many of our water resources also lack basic protections, making them vulnerable to pollution from factory farms, industrial plants, and many more. This can lead to drinking water contamination, habitat degradation and beach closures. And we all like going to beaches don't we? Well if we don't help to clean water, then many wonderful beaches can turn into Glaveson Beach.
SOurces! Thank you Random people of the internet!
60% of the United States' rivers and streams and 20 million acres of wetlands are vulnerable to destruction and pollution due to a loop hole in the clean water act and the cops can't do a thing about it! THAT'S ABOUT 117 MILLION AMERICANS AT RISK!!!! This not only endangers humans, but destroys wildlife and wipes out many species, AND our water supply.
There's a lot of
pollution in the United States that I can't even drink a clean glass of water. Here's why...

If 30 to 100
can use one stream, imagine how many polluted water bodies there are and then how many families are in danger.
= 5
using one stream
*Polluters dumped 232 million pounds of toxic
chemicals into our waters in a single year.
*This is not just hazardous to humans , but is killing
and sickening fish, turtles, ducks and other aquatic
animals. Some birds that eat fish are at high risk because many rivers, estuaries, and other water bodies are filled with dirty water that kill tons of fish.

How does this change bring about conflict?
Well, a change in the water supply can affect many people and conflicts may rise amongst people that would be affected. For example, if the amount of water that a neighborhood uses daily is decreased, the change would cause conflict between many. Also, water is more valuable than gold or jewels, some people would LITTERALLY KILL FOR WATER! This is a problem. Farmland would be destroyed and lack of food AND water would hit the community. Contaminated water will put many lives at stake and conflict will bring HUGE changes to the United States. Conflict will only make problems worse, so why fight when we can work together to solve this problem.
What impact can different perspectives have in a community's response to a conflict?
If America as a whole improves the quality and taste (we being picky americans) of our tap water we could use bottled water to send to places in the United States that really need it. The parts of America that do have good water supply hog it and the places that need it never get water! As for the environmental part...
How would the community change?
If we succeed in purifying the water, this could be our world...
The community would change drastically because the shortage of water would not only affect humans but it would hurt many animals too. The amount of contaminated water that is in the United States will affect millions, if not, billions of lives. Also, communities will change due to the difference in the amount of and quality of the water used daily. The changes that would be seen in the communities because of contaminated water are: increase in water bill that people pay monthly, illnesses would be spread around due to no water, the price of water itself would increase drastically, farmers would not have any production or way to water their plants, and electricity and water supply would be reduced.
What can you do to help the society clean water?
There are many different ways to help. Here are a few...
1) Conserve water by turning off the tap when running water is not necessary. This helps prevent water shortages and reduces the amount of contaminated water that needs treatment.
2) Don’t throw litter into rivers, lakes or oceans. Help clean up any litter you see on beaches or in rivers and lakes, make sure it is safe to collect the litter and put it in a nearby dustbin/trashcan.
3) Believe it or not, by having more plants in your garden you are preventing pesticides and contaminated water from running off into nearby water sources.
Did you know?
Everyone has different perspectives on how contaminated water is affecting their family, business, school, etc., but these perspectives can respond in various ways. Suppose you are a member of a middle-class family, and water contamination has effected your community, of course, your first priority is to make sure your family gets clean water supply; next, you have to make sure that your family's health is securly protected. Middle class family: "That's OUR water and they don't have the right to take it from us!!!!" There's also another piont of view too. Many buisness men would say that we need to pollute the water in order to have thing like cars and dishwasing deturgent! These things are great, but are they worth polluting our hope of survival? Also, we can make 3-D printers, why can't we make an environmentaly friendly way to dispose of pollution? Buisnessmen: "We CAN place our wastee in ANY WATER WE NEED WE NEED TO! Don't forget to buy fuzzle cleaner at www.FuzzleCleaner.com!"
It's soooo GOOD!
This water is just so clear man!
If I'm gonna give you milk, you gotta give me WATER!!!
