British Petroleum Oil Spill On April 20th, 2010 an explosion occurred on the "Deepwater Horizon." "Deepwater Horizon," a semi-submersible Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit (MODU) is owned
by Transocean, an offshore drilling company. Transocean was drilling for the company British Petroleum (BP). The explosion, combined with the subsequent fire, caused the "Deepwater Horizon" to sink about The effects were devastating. Eleven workers on the "Deepwater Horizon" were killed. The economies of the gulf were devastated. Fisherman and their families are still suffering. The damage to the environment and ecosystems were and continue to be so great, the final results are still unknown. It is estimated that 17-39 million gallons of oil spilled into the ocean. 40 miles southeast of the Louisanna coast, resulting in oil rapidly escaping the damaged pipes.
