News that did not make the news
Should face book or twitter be censored?
Fahrenheit 451 and Censorship Today
In the book, the government censors what they want the people to see. That is similar to what our government does. In both examples, the government thinks they are protecting us, when really they are protecting themselves. They both want to control our opinions and our views.
I have learned that censorship is all over the world. Many countries try to control society and people, like journalists, are put in jail or even killed for doing their job. Censorship should not be necessary in the news media because society deserves to know. Knowledge is hindered by censorship because it hides the truth and the real facts.
The Syrian government will not allow independent news coverage. They keep foreign reporters out of the country, not allowing them to report freely. They attack and detain local journalists when they try to cover protests. They will torture the reporters. Many of them have gone missing. This all started when demonstrators began calling for Assad's ouster in March 2011
Journalism Under Attack Around the Globe
Journalists are at risk getting imprisoned or even killed for doing their job. 232 journalists were thrown in jail from 2011 to 2012. In 2012, 70 journalists have been killed for what they do. Turkey, Brazil, Pakistan, Russia, and Ecuador are a few of the countries involved in this.
Monsanto and India's suicide economy
Nearly 300,000 cotton farmers in India have committed suicide because of their massive dept. They could not afford seeds. Monsanto's government has argued that these suicides have no single cause. The price of cotton seeds per kilo has rose from 7 to 17,000 rupees. The farmers simply could not keep up and they got so deep in dept they made the worst decision.
The US Has Left Iraq with an Epidemic of Cancers and Birth Defects
High levels of lead, mercury, and depleted uranium are thought to be a cause of miscarriages, birth defects and cancer citizens of Iraqi cities of Basra and Fallujah. A recent study assumes 50% of children now are born with birth defects. One out of six women have miscarriages. Military officials continue to dodge questions of the issue.
Face book and twitter should be censored
because some people put pictures on there
that are completely unnecessary. Some of
the phrases that people say are upsetting
to people and some can have a few words
that cannot even be spoken on the television.
