Transcript of Scars to Your Beautiful

Theme
It doesn't matter what you look like on the outside, it is what is on the inside that matters.
Reason Picked Song
I picked this song because on the surface it is a catchy tune but actually the song is filled with rich figurative language. Even the title: Scars to your Beautiful is figurative. Society usually doesn't view scars as something beautiful so people feel ashamed of their outer appearance and the song shows the personal struggle of a girl who just wants to "be beautiful". I can identify with this girl because I use to be her when I was growing up.
Symbolic Image
Poetic Devices
1.
Repetition:
The first word of every line starts with "
she
". The singer wants to stress all the pressure
she
is under to fit in.
She
has to do this and
she
has to do that and
she
feel this and
she
feels that.

Lyrics to Analyze

This is covergirl make up. Make up just makes us look beautiful on the outside but you need to feel beautiful on the inside.

2.
Metaphor:
"Oh, she don't see the light that's shining." The shining light is her inner soul that she can't see.
3.
Idiom:
"Maybe we have made her blind." People didn't literally make her blind. They figuratively "blinded" her to what is beautiful (her inner soul).
She just wants to be beautiful
She goes unnoticed, she knows no limits
She craves attention, she praises an image
She prays to be sculpted by the sculptor
Oh, she don't see the light that's shining
Deeper than the eyes can find it
Maybe we have made her blind
So she tries to cover up her pain and cut her woes away
'Cause cover girls don't cry after their face is made
