The Culture of Ancient Greece Greek Poetry and Fables Greek artists believed in certain ideas and tried to show those ideas in their work Greek Art Greek Mythology expressed many different religious beliefs. They believed in many gods and goddesses. Most of the gods and goddesses lived in Mount Olympus. Hades lived in the Underworld. They held rituals for the gods and goddesses. Some of the gods and goddesses are Zeus, Hades, Poseidon, and Athena The Earliest Greek stories were called epics. First great epics of early Greece were the Iliad and the Odyssey. Homer wrote these epics. He wrote them in the 700B.Cs Greek Drama The Greeks performed plays in outdoor theaters as part of religious festivals. They developed two different kinds of drama, comedies and tragedies. In a tragedy a person struggles to overcome difficulties but fails. A comedy is the story that ends happily. Greek Mythology Greek education Education in Greece went from ages 2 to 15 Farming and foods The majority of people in Ancient Greece made life from farming They wanted people to see reason, moderation, balance, and harmony. We can still see examples of Greek painting on greek pottery. In addition to making pottery the greeks were skilled architects. Quiz Who wrote the Iliad and the Odyssey?
