Solutions are homogeneous mixtures that can be solid, liquid or gas.
The composition of solute and solvent determines if a substance will dissolve (Like dissolves like) The rate of solvation depends on the contact between solute and solvent.
Three factors can increase it:
particle size Solubility is measured in grams of solute per 100 g of solvent at a specific temperature and pressure to produce a saturated solution. Based on the amount of solute, the solution can be insaturated, saturated or supersaturated. In liquids:

At higher the temperature the solubility increases. In gases:
At higher temperature the solubility decreases. Strongly affects the solubility of gases. Henry's Law
