Prezi made by Kelley (Boulan) Liu and Bill Yang The Sui and Tang Dynasties The Sui Dynasty Dayanta, Xian China The Tang Dynasty Tang Achievements Sui Achievements Dayanta was built in A.C. 652 After the Sui Dynasty fell, the Tang dynasty shortly followed after. Established by the powerful Li family in 618 A.D, the Tang Dynasty was regarded as the climax in ancient Chinese civilization. The population of the Tang Dynasty was recorded as about fifty-million people, and later increased to about eighty-million people. But, all good times must come to an end. The An LuShan rebellion greatly weakened their forces, and the Kingdom of NanZhao, seeing an opportunity, captured the Tang's capital, Chang'an, in 881 A.D. The Tang Dynasty finally fell in 907 A.D. The Sui had many achievements, their most famous being the Grand Canal. The Grand Canal is 1,776 kilometers long, stretching all the way from Beijing linking the Yangtze and Yellow rivers together along with the Tianjin and the provinces of Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang to the city of Hangzhou. Along with the Grand Canal, they also expanded and increased the defense in the Great Wall, and standardized and re-unified coinage. They also developed the government of Three Departments and Six Ministers. The Tang Dynasty was the highest point in Ancient Chinese times. Due to the large amount of people, the Tang were able to create large and powerful armies, and got their wealth mainly from successfully trading on the Silk Road. The Tang Dynasty was described as "The time of Poetry," as two great poets, Li Bai and Du Fu, lived during this time. By the Tang Dynasty, its capital Chang'an was the largest city during its time. Because of its success, the Tang Dynasty was called the "Golden Age of Chinese Civilization." The Sui dynasty lasted from 589 to 618 A.C. Founded by the Emperor Wen of Sui, the capital of the Sui dynasty was Chang'an (Xi'an in modern times), and was later named DaXing. His reign reunified Northern and Southern China.
