. Gun cartridges were greased with animal fat; which needed to be removed with teeth. Hindus- COW IS SACRED; Muslims- DON'T EAT PORK

85 of 90
the 85 who disobeyed were jailed!!
Because Indians thought the imprisonment of the Sepoys was unfair,
Other Sepoys and Indian citizens rose up,
Fighting to get the British out of India for good!
Fierce fighting took place for a year, UNTIL-
The British were able to regain control
Result:
Because of religious differences, Muslims & Hindus could not unite
Britain won, and implemented DIRECT CONTROL in India

Indian Soldiers who worked for the British East India Co.
) were forced to use new gun cartridges greased with animal fat; this violated their Hindu (cow=sacred) an Muslim (pig=dirty) faiths.

The Sepoys and Indian civilians fought hard to remove the British from India! It ended when the Hindus and Muslims were no longer unified; the British then imposed harsh, direct rule on India.
