Makati City, Philippines - 02 February 2009 - Professionals and staff of Manabat Delgado Amper & Co., the Philippine member firm of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, paid a visit to the Marco Polo Care Center of Virlanie Foundation to see the children and donate art materials and basic supplies to the center. Giving back to Society
Meeting a need beyond the Firm itself, Deloitte Philippines Outreach, Inc. (DPOI) was launched in August 2011 to formally organize the Firm’s corporate social responsibility activities.
The Firm recognizes its social responsibility to the community and commits to participate in various activities that will provide assistance to those who need it and contribute to improve the quality of life in the society for which it belongs to. Sense of altruism is a value that Deloitte Philippines aims to be known for aside from being recognized for its excellent service and professionalism.
Deloitte Philippines Outreach, Inc. (DPOI) being the CSR arm of the Firm has been formed to achieve the following objectives:
• To provide educational opportunities and skills training to the underserved people;
• To support non-profit organizations thru skills-based volunteering and helping hands projects;
• To actively participate in the initiatives that aims to address climate change;
• To partner with other organizations, with similar cause.
Inspired and driven by sense of volunteerism and community service, a CSR group under the wings of DPOI was formed by the very own employees of Deloitte Philippines. This group will serve as a formal vehicle for the staff’s various projects that will focus on three major areas such as education, environment and volunteerism.
Deloitte Philippines Outreach Inc. (Operation Sendong)
Once again, MDA&Co., Deloitte Philippines’ management and staff pooled their resources together for the victims of tropical storm Sendong in Northern Mindanao.
The cash donations rose to a whopping P166, 800. On Friday, January 6, 2012, some employees of MDA&Co. visited the Philippine National Red Cross’ (PNRC) main headquarters in Manila to personally handed over their cash and “in kind” donations and show their support to Sendong victims.
MARIKINA WATERSHED PROJECT
Aside from poor waste management and urban planning issues, one of the identified major causes of flooding when Ondoy hit the country in 2009 was the upland resource mismanagement, or the denudation of the Marikina Watershed where most of the water draining to Marikina and Pasig River come from.
To improve the biodiversity of the Marikina Watershed and to contribute in preventing large-scale wreckage in the country, The Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) established a reforestation program in the Wawa-Montalban Subwatershed which is connected to the greater Marikina Basin. The said program is part of the bigger Marikina Watershed Initiative Program managed by the Philippine Disaster Recovery Foundation, a consortium of NGOs and the private sector to reforest 34% or 9,520 hectares to achieve a sustainable forest cover for the watershed and to provide alternative livelihood activities to the watershed communities, helping them alter their ecologically destructive practices and making them active environment stewards.
CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
On 10 November 2012 (Saturday), Deloitte took part in this reforestation program. The firm committed to plant 1,675 seedlings (i.e. Narra, Cupang, and Dungon) in 3 hectares of land in Mount Ayaas in Rodriguez, Rizal.
Annually, the company celebrates Impact Day where our people set aside their work for a day to come together and volunteer their time to non-profit organizations and charitable initiatives. The company participated in a number of activities such as:
Tree planting at Eco Park, Manila
Building houses in collaboration with Habitat for Humanities, Philippines
Spending a day with the children of Bahay Kalinga Orphanage
Painting walls and chairs at Maliksi Elementary School, Cavite City in collaboration with Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP). This is a "Brigada Eskwela" project.
