Megan Gunn 4/19/2013 Chains Final Project You should do the morally right thing no matter the circumstances. Theme 1st Quote "Thousands of pounds are being wasted and so I owe my friend, Captain Farrar a penny. A gentleman always pays his debts promptly be they large or small." "The British have confined all American officers to their lodging houses today." - Captain Morse Pg. 274 2nd Quote "And I didn't even have a pass for him, how to explain that? No, I couldn't. I looked west, toward the river, then north, then west again. I shouldn't. But I had to. I had a debt to pay."- Isabel Pg. 292 3rd Quote "There were coins in that bag, coins that would help a girl set on walking to South Carolina. But that was stealing from somebody that had showed me kindness. But she stood by when Ruth was taken and she returned me to Madam. But taking her money was still stealing."- Isabel
Pg. 290 Other books with the same theme "Do what conscience says is right;
do what reason says is best ; do with all your mind and might do your duty, and be blessed."

She decided to help him even though she risked being caught or having the tide turn against her. How it relates Isabel was thinking about taking Lady Seymour's money but decided not to. Eventually Isabel did take her money after Lady Seymour "Said" she could have the money. This represents the theme because in life you have to follow the straight and narrow path by doing what's right. This represents the theme because in order to do the right thing you must follow the path on the map.
