Côte d’Ivoire (The Ivory Coast) Côte d’Ivoire General Information Côte d’Ivoire, or the Ivory Coast is a country located on the western coast of Africa.
The capital of this country is Yamoussoukro, which is located on the southern coast
Some other cities are: Abidjan (the former capital), Dabou, Brand Bassan and Tabou.
The Ivory Coast has 20.15 million people
The Ivory Coast speaks French and other tribal dialects of French
The president of the Ivory Coast is Alassane Ouattara Alassane Ouattara Côte d’Ivoire Geography Some major river systems of The Ivory Coast are the Cavally, Sassandra, Bandama, and Comoé
The Ivory Coast is not known for its mountains, although the Savannah region does have many hills and plateaus
The Ivory Coast has a varying climate
There is an arid climate in the Savannah region
A humid jungle-like climate in its Tropical region
And as the name suggests; The Ivory Coast has a large coastline
It borders Liberia, Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Ghana The Côte d’Ivoire Coastline Côte d’Ivoire Economy The Ivory Coast has an unstable economy
There is very little growth, and high unemployment
Most of the country is poor, with 42% below the poverty line
The major exports of the Ivory Coast are; cocoa, cigarettes, cement, processed wood and auto mobiles
Their currency is the West African CFA Franc Côte d’Ivoire Currency History of Côte d’Ivoire The Ivory Coast became an independent nation from France on August 7th 1960
By the year of 1980 it became the leading producer of cocoa, showing economic stability
The government instability began in 2002 when the first Civil war broke out between geographically-segregated political supporters
300 protesters were killed by the government
The country launched an air strike on French peacekeepers in 2004, killing 10 people
The price of conflict has put the country far into debt
The second civil war broke out in 2010, and is still evident in the country today
The dispute over the Outtara-Gbabgo election spurred the war
The violence is severe enough that millions of people have fled the country's former capital, Abidjan

5. Isaach De Bankolé- Actor, mainly known for his role as Steven Obanna in Casino Royale Côte d’Ivoire Culture The Ivory Coast has many cultural and ethnic groups
The main groups being the Akan, Voltaic and Mande
The main holiday is the Festival of the Masks
The Festival of the Masks is a holiday in which people pay homage to the forest and Nature gods by wearing decorative masks and performing dances
Economy, food, and language can differ depending on culture groups Festival of the Masks Sports of Côte d’Ivoire The Ivory Coast is known for its Soccer, Track and Field and Rugby Union teams
The Soccer team is exceptional, the team has won the Africa Cup of Nations, and has produced many stars such as Didier Drogba, Gervinho, and Yaya Toure
Track and Field is competitive in The Ivory Coast, with several Olympic qualifiers
Their Rugby Union squad is known for its strong players who have had some success in the bigger English and Irish leagues
Some recreational sports played by children in the Ivory Coast are handball and soccer Didier Drogba the Ivorian Soccer Player Côte d’Ivoire Tourist Attractions The Ivory Coast is visited mainly for its National Parks
The most famous of these are Tai National Park, Comoe National Park, and Mount Nimba Reserve
The Ivory Coast also has some beautiful beaches along its vast coastline
Many French, and non-French westerners visit these areas

The Ivory Coast has a much different landscape then France, the most visible difference is France's Snow-peaked mountains compared to The Ivory Coast's Jungles
The Ivory Coast is very poor, while France has a pretty stable economy
Urban areas are less abundant in The Ivory Coast, while France has many
The Ivory Coast has a very shallow, violent history while France has a extensive, yet fairly peaceful history THE END!!!
