Preform a first hand investigation to demonstrate the relationship between surface area and rate of reaction React hydrochloric acid with powdered and granular calcium carbonate Calcium carbonate + Hydrochloric Acid
- calcium chloride + carbon dioxide + water Method
Place a calcium carbonate chip into a test tube and the same amount of powdered calcium carbonate into another.
Pour the same amount of hydrochoric acid into each test tube (so that the whole chip is covered.)
Observe the rate and amount of carbon dioxide bubbling.
Record your observations. What happened?
