Transcript of Earth Biomes
Tundra has a cold climate, with long cold winters and short mild summers.
Plants are limited to mainly groundcover due to permaforst.
Rainwater can't soak and form shallow ponds and marshy areas.
Grassland biomes varies in temperature
They have hot summers and cold winters
Can get below zero.
All temperate climates lie roughly around the same latitude.
bison (north america)
hawks and owls (africa and north america)
wild dogs (africa) coyote (north america)
Large parts of rainforests are being cut
down for agriculture.
The rainforest have very large predators.
Unlike desert biomes, has very much rainfall and supports diverse plant life
Wagler's pit viper
Cold temperatures and food shortages make living condition rough especially during winters.
Taiga biomes are the largest biome in the world.
Winters are cold and have snowfall.
Summers are warm, humid and rainy.
American black bear
There are three different types of freshwater regions; lakes and ponds, rivers and streams, and wetlands.
Plants and animals can't surivve in water that contains more the 1% salt.
Lakes and ponds are as diverse because they can be isoalted.
Rivers and streams have a more diversity with species.
Wetlands have the highest species diversity of the freshwater biome.
Desert biomes support plants, animals, and fungi
Desert organisms must adapt to lack of rain and extreme temperatures.
Most wildlife is active at night.
Very dry and lacks much rainfall
Can't support much plant life
Prickly pear cactus
Eastern Red cedar
Coniferous Forest Biome
Deciduous Forest Biome
Marine Biomes are five zones
These are the intertidal, neritic , open-ocean, surface and deep zones.
Sea stars (intertidal)
Manta ray (neritic)
Blue whales (open ocean-surface)
Giant squid (open ocean-deep)
A forest made up of deciduous trees.
These are trees that shed their leaves.
These forest receive enough rain to support trees and other plants.
Variety in plants creates diverse habitats.
Southern Flying Squirrel
Chipmunks and Squirrel
The coniferous forest is made of coniferous trees or trees with needles
Coniferous forests are located in the Taiga biome as well
Few plants can grow due to poor soil
trees: fir, pine, spruce,hemlock
anything made up of water
