They set course for the planet Magrathea Written by Douglas Adams In present times, the story travels through highly advanced civilizations in fictional areas of the Milky Way Galaxy. Setting Ford Prefect from Betelgeuse is a reporter for
The Guide, and takes with him Arthur Dent, Zaphod Beeblebrox, the galaxy's two-headed president, and Trillian. Characters The cruel Vogons plan to destroy Earth in order to build a space bypass when Ford snatches Arthur Dent from the now obliterated planet. Plot Plot cont'd Plot cont'd A native, Slartibartfast, informs Arthur of Deep Thought, a supercomputer of 5 million years before that gave The Ultimate Answer. Main Conflict Arthur Dent must tag along with the adventures of Zaphod Beeblebrox and Ford Prefect. A man vs. nature problem, Arthur learns fromthe experience "It is comforting to reflect that they are all in some way commemerated by the fact that twenty-nine seconds later Ford and Arthur were rescued." Tone Tone Cont'd The previously mentioned quote shows an Ironic tone throughout the novel. Quote "Computer... if you don't open that exit hatch this moment I shall zap straight off to your major data banks and reprogram you with a very large ax, got that?" Quote This quote is from Zaphod Beeblebrox and shows that he is not the nicest person on this side of the galaxy. Theme A theme of life is what you make it suits this novel well. Arthur adventures away from the demolished Earth and looks at it better. Connections Arthur Dent is an alcoholic who goes on this wild adventure, so who knows what can happen when I am assigned a task? Connections cont'd Though fictional, this book says that there is a universe out there and we should spend our lives well.
