Animal Abuse... Every year, 6 to 8 million dogs and cats enter shelters.. ..And 3 to 4 million sheltered dogs and cats are killed... Most pet store puppies come from "puppy mills", or mass-breeding operations in which ill, suffering dogs are kept in deplorable conditions... "All beings are fond of themselves, they like pleasure, they hate pain, they shun destruction, they want life and want to live long. To all life is dear; hence their life should be protected." - Mahavira The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) estimates that nearly 1 million animals
a year are abused or killed in connection with domestic violence Up to 75 percent of domestic violence victims report that their partners threatened or
killed family pets... The Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) estimates that approximately 250,000 animals per year are hoarding victims
Hoarding is a public health concern as the living conditions of animal hoarders can cause disease in both humans and animals
Some animal hoarding studies found that animals are found dead or suffering from “obvious disease or injury” in 80 percent of hoarding cases In 2000 approximately 7,600 greyhound puppies deemed not fast enough to race were killed, as were an estimated 11,400 "retired" dogs. Retired greyhounds, who suffer greatly as racers, may also be sold to research labs or used to breed future litters. "If we see cruelty or wrong, that we have the power to stop, and do nothing, we make ourselves sharers in the guilt." - Anna Sewell from "Black Beauty" - These are just a FEW examples of Animal Abuse...
