Helping Today's Youth What's the problem? Excepted behavior in the home and at school Oppositional Defiant Disorder ODD is a psychiatric diagnosis marked by a persistent pattern of negative, disruptive, disobiedient, and hostile behavior toward authority figures. Personal Experience My job at Millcreek Elementary School has given me a first-hand encounter of what it's really like to work with children who are not disciplined appropriately. Disruptions It only takes one child to distract a whole group of children. Disciplining a child in the home at an early age is the best way to avoid behavioral issues in school as they get older. Structured Activity Having structured activity present in the home at an early age is a great way to prepare a child for the required discipline in a classroom setting. Family meal time, clean-up time, and reading time are great ways to incorporate this. Solutions Books for Babies is a student created org that donates books to new parents in the Lexington, KY community to raise awareness of the importance of literacy in the home.
