Transcript of Fishing

Is another word for fishing where you can catch all types of fish using a rod, line and hooks (Britannica, 2013 ). The Department of Environmental Conservation simply as "taking fish by hook and line" (pg 1, 2013). REFERENCES Fishing Fly Fishing Deep Sea Fishing Trawling Angling Offshore boat fishing, sometimes called deep sea or open water fishing, is fishing in deep water (more than 30 meters) and at some distance from land. It is dangerous compared to shallow water or lake fishing. More knowledge is needed about weather patterns, navigation and safety precautions, and this is not an activity for beginners (Wikipedia). BAIT EQUIPMENT TECHNIQUES TRAWLING FISH CAUGHT CREATED BY FLY FISHING EQUIPMENT BAIT TECHNIQUES FISH CAUGHT EQUIPMENT BAIT TECHNIQUES FISH CAUGHT DEEP SEA FISHING ANGLING EQUIPMENT BAIT TECHNIQUES FISH CAUGHT Fishing is defind by the American Heritage Dictionary as "an act, occupation or sport to catch a fish" (pg 1, 2011). There are many different types of fishing that a person can participate in.This presentation will be examining four different types including; fly fishing, deep sea fishing, commercial trawling and angling fishing. We will closely look at the equipment required, techniques and bait used to catch particular fish in all four areas. The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition. (2003). It's where fake flies are cast by a rod to attract and catch fish (Briannica, 2013). Briannica states "Fly-fishing is believed by its devotees to be the most challenging and fulfilling method of sport fishing" ( pg 1, 2013). Trawling is mostly used in commercial fishing to catch large quantities of fish. It relies on a cone shaped net being pulled by one or two trawlers (boat) along the ocean floor. http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/674723/trawling Trawling. (2013). http://www.livestrong.com/article/8891-pick-deepsea-fishing-gear/ Fly fishing is commonly used to catch trout (Creamer, 2007) however you can catch other species of fish they are divided into two groups, saltwater and freshwater fish (Cooper, 2012).

Saltwater- Mackerel (horse, blue, Spanish), Threadfin Salmon, Longfin and Longtail Tuna, Barramundi, Mangrove Jack, Bay and Salmon Trout (Cooper, 2012).

Freshwater- Australian Bass, Murray Cod, Brown and Rainbow trout (Cooper, 2012).

Just remember Steve Copper's helpful tips of choosing the right fly for the right fish (2012). Catching a big fish comes down to the technique of reeling it in, a term known as “playing fish”. It is used to tire the fish out and not yourself. You wind your reel and also lift your rod up and down you then let the fish run by releasing the line and letting it swim, then reel it in again (Starling, 2010). Repeat this process until the fish tires. Gavin Douglas deep sea fishing tips http://ezinearticles.com/?Deep-Sea-Fishing-Tips&id=718319 Australian fishing journalist Steve Starling (2010) advises that you are dressed for the elements by wearing water proof clothing, appropriate footwear (mud boots for river fishing), hat, sunscreen and insect repellent. Equipment to bring is a ruler for fish size, long nosed pilars to remove hooks, sharp knife, fishing rod with a line and reel (sizing depends on where you are fishing
whether it be river or beach) hooks, bait, sinkers,
lures and a net (Starling, 2010). Starling, S. (2010). Fishing for dummies (2nd ed.). Milton, QLD: Wiley Publishing Australia. Creamer, N. (2007, September 15). Retrieved from: http://www.flyanglersonline.com/review/102405.php http://www.flyanglersonline.com/review/102405.php Position yourself upstream of the fish and cast across the current and slightly downstream. After casting, pay out as much fly line as needed to allow the fly and line to sink to the desired depth. Let the fly swing until it is hanging in the current below you (Amato, 2005).

Cast across the current, either upstream or downstream, and retrieve your wet fly by stripping in the fly line. Try stripping in the fly line with short, fast strips and long, slow strips to determine which method attracts the most fish (Amato, 2005).

Using a lightly weighted fly, cast slightly upstream and let the fly drift naturally downstream with the current. To extend the drift, pay out fly line as the fly drifts downstream, This can be done with or without a strike indicator (Amato, 2005).

Nymphs are sinking flies that are drifted with the current. Cast well upstream of the fish you are targeting, and allow the fly to drift naturally with the current. For lightly weighted nymphs, your fly line should be buoyant enough to keep the fly from catching on the bottom (Amato, 2005). Fly fishing, deep sea fishing, trawling and angling are various methods of fishing. These methods of fishing involve using varieties of bait, equipment, and techniques all leading to the prize of the big fish caught at the end of the day! Without these elements fishing would not be possible.
