Transcript of Spread of Buddhism

528-483 BCE

Buddha travels with his followers, the sangha, which included women. He preaches and teaches in India and surrounding countries. 273-232 BCE

Ashoka, king of India, converts to Buddhism. He rules India using Buddhist teachings and sends his children out as missionaries. 200 BCE

Ashoka's daughter brings Buddhism to Sri Lanka and stupas are built. Sapling of Bodhi tree, where Buddha reached enlightenment, is also planted there.
