Transcript of File Format and Dated Compression

File Format AUDIO FORMAT Musepack or MPC(MPEGplus, MPEG+ or MP+): is an open source lossy audio codec, specifically optimized for transparent compression of stereo audio at bitrates of 160–180 kbit/s. WMA: Windows Media Audio is an audio compression technology made my Microsoft. This is targeted at voice content and applies compression using a range of low bit rates. AAC(Advanced Audio Coding File): It is a newer kind of audio file that has been promoted as a successor to the MP3. It offers higher-quality sound than an MP3, but takes up about the same amount of space. It is a standard that was developed by a group of companies. 4mp:Database of audio files organized by 4-MP3, a database manager for storing and searching information on collections of sound files; supported formats include .MP3, .WAV, and .VQF; allows large collections of audio files to be searched and browsed efficiently. 4MP files do not contain actual audio, but only references to the audio files listed in the database. .ACD-BAK File Extension: ACD-BAK files are created automatically by the software. They are saved to the same directory as the ACD project file. The ACD-BAK file can be used for restoring the most recent edits in the event the program unexpectedly shuts down. Video Format .3gp 3GPP Multimedia File:Audio and video container format developed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP); designed as a multimedia format for transmitting audio and video files between 3G cell phones and over the Internet; commonly used by mobile phones that support video capture. ASX File Extension: Shortcut to an audio/video file (typically a .ASF file); references a URL, which points to the location of the actual media file; can be used to create audio or video playlists. .AVI Audio Video Interleave File: Video container or wrapper format created by Microsoft; stores video data that may be encoded in a variety of codecs; typically uses less compression than similar formats .VOB File Extension: Movie data file from a DVD disc, typically stored in the VIDEO_TS folder; contains the majority of data stored on the disc including video, audio, and subtitles; usually formatted as an MPEG-2 system stream and can be opened by various video playback programs. .m2p MPEG-2 Program Stream File: Video container format that supports MPEG-2 audio and video compression; similar to an MPEG-1 file, but also supports interlaced video and more audio channels; commonly used for streaming digital video. Image Format BMP (Windows BitmaP)--Windows Paint: A bitmap is one of the GDI objects that can be selected into a device context (DC). Device contexts are structures that define a set of graphic objects and their associated attributes, and graphic modes that affect output. The table below describes the GDI objects that can be selected into a device context. DCS (Desktop Color Separator)--QuarkXPress: This format enables color separations of image to be printed. CompuServe GIF (Graphics Interchange Format): Compresses 8-bit images, and can't handle more than 256 colors. There is a loss of data inthis type of compression. It is used for online imagery, especially on the World Wide Web. There is an option to save interlaces GIFs, useful on the Web. HAM (Hold And Modify)--Amiga: a compressed version of IFF, but the images have to conform to on of two preset sizes. PIXAR: format for use in PIXAR workstations, for 3D animations. Photoshop can open stills saved as PIXAR or save images as PIXAR so that they can be incorporated into 3D renderings. Supports RGB and Greyscale images.
