What causes obesity? Obesity What is it? Obesity is defined as having a BMI of 30 or more What does it do? Obesity affects almost Head Chest As well as other cancers, obesity increases the risk of breast cancer Lungs increases risk of pneumonia, sleep apnea, asthma,pulmonary hypertension and obesity hyperventilation Heart Greatly increases risk for all heart disease and causes incredible strain on the circulatory system hands Abdomen Stomach increases risk of stomach cancer and gastroesophageal reflux disease. Intestines increases risk of colorectal cancer Kidneys Increases risk of kidney cancer Pancreas Risk of diabetes is greatly increased Liver Lowered levels of HDL and high levels of LDL as well as hepatomegaly (enlarged liver), a fatty liver or cirrhosis Gallbladder Increases chances of having gallstones Pelvic region Uterus incresed risk of endometrial cancer, infertility, irregular periods and birth defects Statistics Obesity causes strain on the circulatory system, and can increase risk of stroke.
