She began recording for her first album in 1988 which took 2 years too make Mariah wrote all her songs and helped produce the whole album. This album gave her 4 number one song which was I Don't Wanna Cry, Love Takes Time, Vision of Love, and Someday. In 1991 she was ready for her second album Emotions in which Sony allowed her too be lead producer, this album earned her another number one making her the only singer too have her first 5 songs hit number one.
Mariah Carey was born March 27, 1970 in Long Island, New York her mother and father named her after a song named "They Call the Wind Maria". Born with an Irish mother and a father who is African American, Venezuelan, and Cuban life was always hard for Mariah. Getting bullied as a child because she was mixed, Mariah would always forget about that and focus on song writing and singing she wrote her first song at age 4 and at a young age she began to do the whistle register. Her mother was an opera singer and taught Mariah at a young age how to sing she grew apart from her father. She started singing back up for singer Brenda K. Starr, Brenda invited Mariah too a party where she gave her demo tape to Tommy Mottola he listened to the tape and promised to make her a singer in 1988.
Mariah is the first artist to mix hip hop and R&B together All I want For Christmas Is You in which Mariah wrote is the most played Christmas song and has hit number 1 every year since 1994. She started working on her 14th studio album in 2010 and it will be released May 6, 2014, her children Monroe and Moroccan will be on this album singing with their mother as well. On February 14, 2014 she released a song called You're Mine which hit number one as well. She has spent 79 weeks on the charts putting her ahead of everyone else, In Asia Mariah has the top 4 highest selling albums of all time by a non asian artist.
Marriage and Children
Her first marriage was too record producer Tommy Mottola who discovered her at a party in 1988 they got married June 5, 1993 when Mariah was 23 and Tommy was 43. They was separated in 1997 and divorced May 5, 1998 the public later learned that Tommy was abusing Emotionally, Mentally, and Physically Mariah and he was controlling towards her and he wouldn't let her out of the house. Her second marriage was too Nick Cannon after 6 weeks of dating they got married April 30, 2008 she later confirmed that she was 2 months pregnant and had suffered a miscarriage. On April 30, 2011 on Mariah and Nick wedding anniversary their twins was born their daughter was named Monroe after Marilyn Monroe and their son Moroccan after the room that Nick proposed to Mariah.
Honors and Legacy
She has been compared to Celine Dion and Whitney Houston but Mariah is the only one who writes all of her music and produces it as well. Her daughter Monroe will soon follow in her mothers foot steps as a singer. Mariah has sold 200 million albums world wide making her the biggest selling female artist of all time, She is also famous for her 5.2 octave range and she is nicknamed the Songbird because of her whistle register that she can use her voice to make bird sounds. Mariah can hit the highest note on a piano. Still to this day Mariah Carey song One Sweet day still remains the longest running number one song on the Billboards which was number one for 16 weeks (four months).
Influence On Young Stars
Mariah Carey is the most influenced singer in the world in the hip hop, pop, R&B many young stars has said that Mariah was a big influence on the. Beyonce says Mariah is the reason she is singing and credits her for singing Vision of love. She has influenced Ariana Grande, Britney Spears, Leona Lewis, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna and many more including Christina Aguilera
She has 3 of the longest running number one songs in music history, One Sweet Day which was on the charts for 16 weeks from 1995 to 1996 and We Belong Together spent 14 weeks at number one from 2005 to 2006 and both of theses songs was the most played songs, her other song in which she covered I Want to Know what love is spent 27 weeks on the charts. Mariah beat Madonna and Whitney Houston with more number ones as a female artist and she has passed Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson with more number 1's than any other solo artist with 18 number one songs and she is second to the Beatles who has 20. She is the only artist too have a song hit number 1 and number 2 at the same time with We Belong Together and Shake it off, she is also the only artist to have a number 1 in every year of a decade which was the 90's.
