Canada Joins the United Nations
4 Jan 1945 The United Nations was made to: prevent wars, defend human rights, encourage peace between and in countries, improve world wide standards of living and keep peace between group members. United Nations Countries sign the Decloration of Human Rights
1 Dec 1948 The Decloration of Human Rights was a list of rights that all members of the U.N agreed to sign and follow. Canada Joins the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)
4 Apr 1949 NATO is a governmental military alliance based on the NAT. This lead the Americans to make a military peace commitment with Europe. Canada Enters the Korean War
1 Jan 1950 Canada sends military troops to the Korean war on behalf of the U.N. This was an important event for Canada because it showed that they had the courage to fight on behalf of the U.N. Canada Joins the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD)
