Transcript of Convection, Conduction,and Radiation

Transfer of Heat Convection, Conduction, and Radiation by: Abigail Johnson I see conduction when someone cooks. That is conduction because the cool pot that has just been put on the hot stove will turn hot because the heat will transfer. How It Affects My Life The way that heating and cooling affect different materials is by conduction, convection, and radiation. Introduction Conduction Conduction is the transfer of heat by objects touching. Example One example of conduction is ice melting in your hands. That is conduction because your hands are warm, and the heat transfers from your warm hands to the cold ice which causes the ice to melt. Detail One detail is that the warmer object always passes to the cooler object. Convection Convection is the movement of liquids and gasses. How It Affects My Life I see convection when someone boils water. That is convection because the water gets hot and rises to the top,and after the water gets cool at the top it falls back down, and the process keeps going. Example One example of convection is in any body of water being warm at the surface, and being cool at the bottom. That is convection because warm air or water rises, and cool air or water sinks. Example Another example is that the top floor being warmer, and the bottom floor being cooler. That is convection because warm air or water rises, and cool air or water sinks. Detail One detail is that warm air or water rises, and cool air or water sinks. Radiation Radiation is a method of heat transfer that does not rely upon any contact between objects. How It Affects My Life I see radiation when my classroom is being heated by the radiator. Example One example of radiation is a campfire heating its surroundings. That is radiation because the heating will eventually be the same temperature. Detail One detail is that radiation heats things until they are the same temperature. Conclusion The way that heating and cooling affect
different materials is by conduction, convection, and radiation. This connects to my world because I see it in my everyday life. Credits United Streaming Study Jams Experiments Science Coach Web Quest Brain-Pop
