Transcript of AUTOMATIC SIDE STAND RETRIEVAL SYSTEM

INTRODUCTION

Motorcycles are generally provided with stand for their support when they are not in use. The stand usually comprises of a bar or rod which is attached to the lower portion of the motorcycle frame and is movable to a laterally, downwardly extending position so that the motorcycle can be tilted against and rest upon the bar. When the motorcycle is in use, the bar is swung upwardly and along the frame so that it will not interfere with the running of the motorcycle. Often we forget to move the stand to its raised position and when a banked turn is made the stand strikes the ground and causes the accident. In some of the bikes some audio alarm is be provided when the side stand is in downward position when the ignition is switched ON.

About 13 people die every hour due to automobile accidents in India. About 36% of these accidents are due to negligence in lifting the side stands. We have developed a mechanical arrangement which will cause the side stand to retrieve automatically as the vehicle is started.

OBJECTIVE
The aim of our project is to provide a safety measure in bikes to avoid accidents and damage caused by not retrieving the side stand by providing automated side stand retrieval system.

ABSTRACT
Here we propose an idea for automatic side stand retrieving which is completely mechanical and without using any external power. The rotation motion of lock is used to retrieve the side stand. The rotation motion of lock is transmitted to the push rod using the clutch/brake wire which is used to connect the key rod and the push rod.

In 2014(upto October) Number of persons killed= 616
Number of fatal cases=595

EXISTING METHODS

ECU (Electronic Control unit): Small stepper motor is connected between the side stand and the engine, when the engine is started the stepper motor runs and retrieves the sides stand automatically.

DRAWBACKS OF EXISTING METHODS

ECU methods are not implemented in all two wheelers due to their high cost.

The sprocket method uses the power from the bike thereby reducing the power transmitted to the rear wheel
