Agnel Polytechnic,Navi Mumbai
Operation requires CNC machines.
Affordability of CNC machine
Lack of repeatability even by form tool
Lack of accuracy & precision in the job
SELECTION OF MATERIAL
Availability of materials
Material Selected - MILD STEEL
Suitability for the required components
Suitability for the desired working conditions
Resistant to shock loads
Resistant to wear, abrasion and indentation
Sudden cooling effect of coolant
Low coefficient of friction
2 times stiffer than steel, with a Young’s Modulus of approximately 550 Gpa
Better finish on parts
Temperature resistance allows faster machining
2 plate assembly
with handle & tool holder
Name of the components

The concave and convex surfaces to be designed should be of even surface roughness and good finish.
The tool was set at an angle of 60° to machine the job
The spherical job was machined in few minutes from a mild steel rod of 40mm.
The following tests were carried out for the Spherical Turning Lathe Attachment and the following results were obtained-
Time to machine a job -10mins
Speed - 400 rpm
The roughness of the job was acceptably smooth
The tool was set at an angle of 60° to machine the job proved to be appropriate.
Reducing time required in cutting intricate and curvature shaped profile
Operator’s fatigue -work
Productivity & accuracy of operation
FUTURE SCOPE & ADVANTAGES
Precision & Repeatability
High convex High surfaces
This is a portable attachment
Cheaper than CNC machining
Economical & able to cope up with production demands
Replaces the compound rest on the lathe
