RESEARCH CONCEPT HOW DID WE
GET HERE? PROBLEM OUR APPROACH SHORT TERM LONG TERM TARGET MARKET PROGRAMMING SPACE PLANNING Nearly 1.2 million people
in Arizona are obese,
477,649 more people than in 10 years ago.

Arizona is 10th
in the nation for obesity. (Maricopa County Department of Public Health,2012) Only 20.4% of adults of age 18 years and over,
who meet the Physical Activity Guidelines
for both aerobic and muscle-strengthening
physical activity. (Centers for disease control & prevention, 2010) 95-98% of all people who lose weight
gain it back within 5 years. Usually adding an extra 7% 95% of all people who
undertake a diet & exercise program FAIL OBESITY POOR
NUTRITION PHYSICAL
INACTIVITY POOR MENTAL
CONDITIONING + + POOR NUTRITION POOR MENTAL CONDITIONING PHYSICAL INACTIVITY 1 OUT OF 4 MEALS is from a fast food restaurant is eaten in the car is eaten in front of TV/ computer Parts of our brains are working against us
when we try to overcome bad habits. We need to change the pathways in the brain,
which are often exacerbated by psychological issues. (National Institute of Health, 2012) PHYSICAL ACTIVITY EMPOWERMENT EAT RIGHT Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes
Avoid empty calories from highly processed food that are high in fat / sugar
Choose activities that involve moderate or vigorous exercise
Limit or abstain from alcohol Helps you control your weight
Reduce your chances of developing other conditions (such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes)
Reduces stress, which also may lead into heart disease is the process of increasing the capacity of individuals / groups
to make choices and to transform those choices into
desired actions and outcomes. SHORT TERM vs. LONG TERM SOCIAL MEDIA People spend
an average of 32 hours/ month
surving the web. THAT IS 8 HOURS / WEEK ! Case studies:
Facebook + Bodybuilding.com + e-Harmony FACEBOOK BODYBUILDING E- HARMONY IMPLEMENTATION Research shows that facebook is the most successful social media site
With more than 1 billion users worldwide
American spends about 405 minutes/ month WHAT MAKES THEM SUCCESSFUL? USE "TRIGGERS" AND CHANGE IT INTO HABIT Is the world's #1 online bodybuilding website and supplement store
At your fingertips you have access to nutrition information, training techniques, supplement store, track your fitness progress, and support groups (online community) WHAT MAKES THEM SUCCESSFUL? MOTIVATION & COMPETITION It is an online dating site that is designed to match single men and women in long term relationships
Members are matched using a model of compatibility
e-Harmony couples were more than twice as likely to be in highly successful marriages than non-eHarmony couples WHAT MAKES THEM SUCCESSFUL? PREDICTIVE COMPATIBILITY Using "triggers" will keep members engaged, by receiving messages with friend's health updates, photos, goals achievements, etc
From bodybuilding we would like to use their technique where members will have online access to the tools needed to succeed
We will use incentive programs where individual / teams can win cash in rewards RESEARCH PROGRAM PARTICIPATORY STUDIES
