Inside A Neuron
Transcript of Inside A Neuron
Ekene Nwosisi & Sydney DeHorn
FUNCTION OF A NERVE CELL:
carry "messages" through an electrochemical process
neurons are surrounded by a cell membrane
neurons have a nucleus that contains genetic material
contains mitochondria, cytoplasm,etc
neurons also carry out basic cellular processes such as protein synthesis & energy production NEURONS ARE SIMILAR
TO OTHER CELLS: Now that you have
on nerve cells,
let's look inside
a neuron. The nucleus contains chromosomes
including information for cell
development and synthesis of
proteins. THE NUCLEUS nucleolus Interesting Fact:
The human brain is made up of approximately 100 billion nerve cells! DENDRITES Function: bring information to the cell
Appearance: rough surface & contain ribosomes MULTIPOLAR NEURON AXONS There are axons inside of neurons and they are specialized extensions that take away information from the cell body. Each neuron only has one axon. Bipolar neuron Multipolar neuron Facts about Multipolar and Bipolar Neurons A Bipolar neuron has two extensions coming out of it. Examples of Bipolar neurons:
retinal cells, olfactory epithelium cells, and many more cells. A Multipolar neuron has many extensions coming out of it. Examples of Multipolar neurons:
Spinal motor neurons, pyramidal neurons, Purkinje cells, and many other cells. Thanks for watching and learning about................ NEURONS takes information away from the cell body AXON Gallery of Neurons spinal cord neuron hippocampus
