Abstract
The purpose of our creative inquiry is to determine the advantages and possible uses of double robotics technology in telemedicine. This project will address the impact of telemedicine on the quality of patient care, nursing efficiency, access to patient information, and patient safety.
Defining Telemedicine
Telemedicine can be defined as "the practice of medical care using interactive audiovisual and data communications. This includes the delivery of medical care, diagnosis, consultation and treatment, as well as health education and the transfer of medical data."
Quality of Patient Care
According to AHC Case Management Advisor, in terms of videoconferencing, "patients really feel involved in the care process themselves because when we are evaluating them they can see what we are looking at"
Although some believe telemedicine compromises interpersonal relationships, a majority of studies prove otherwise

Nurse Zoe
This Creative Inquiry project uses the Double telepresence robot. The robot, Nurse Zoe, consists of an iPad "head" connected to a mobile base. Zoe is controlled using bluetooth technology from either another iPad, a computer, or even a smart phone. Zoe can be controlled remotely and can be used on any indoor flat surface.
Phase 1: Introduction to Double Robotics Technology
Is the robot easy to navigate?
Who would control the robot?
What would be the robot's purpose in a hospital or doctor's office setting?
What are the security issues?
How is the quality of the image?
Would the Double telepresence robot improve patient quality of care, ease of access, time efficiency, or team member interaction?
Is there any interest in surrounding hospitals?
Evaluation of Double Robotics Technology
Zoe is extremely easy to navigate on the iPad and computer. The only negative is the speed, but we found that the lower the robot is to the ground, the faster it will go. Zoe is able to go around corners and can maneuver in between difficult spaces.
From working with the robot, we concluded that a healthcare provider could control the robot remotely to round up patients.

Zoe could be useful for a variety of reasons in a hospital setting. The robot could be used in rural locations where there may not be a physician. From research, we concluded that the best use of the robot would be so the physician could do rounds or check on patients when they are not on site. This would be especially appropriate if a surgeon wanted to check in on patients after a surgery.
One worry is the security of the robot. We have been unsuccessful in determining a way to keep the robot completely secure unless a nurse or assistant followed the robot at all times. The iPad, however, is screwed in and secure.

The robot can zoom in and even take pictures that can be later evaluated. When experimenting, we found that most monitors can be read in patient's rooms. Smaller writing can be read when a picture is taken.
The main benefit of using the robot would be improvement of access to patients.
We have interest from a physician at Oconee Hospital, who would like to work with the robot and determine possible benefits of the robot for the hospital.
