Transcript of New media evaluation

Evaluation Activities My name is Georgina Wilkinson and in this production i had the main role of Director 1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? (i.e. of film openings) Our Media product represents a perticular social group of 16 - 30 year olds.

This is a screen grab of Ben - the father in our piece, and also Robert De Niro who plays the father in Hide and Seek. These two films are both psychological Thrillers, so in our research we choose many things from this film to put into ours. You can tell by the facial expressions on the screen grabs how the fathers are the same just after the murder has taken place. There clothes are normal father type clothes which shows that you wouldn't expect them to be muders, they both have chldren in the fim and both kill their wives which is why we choose this film as research, due to the similar story line. 2 - How does your media product represent particular social groups? 3- What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? For our production company we decided to use our enitials of the both members in the group. We thought that seen as one began with the letter 'L' and one with the letter 'G' we decided to use this and came up with L2G.

A production company can be many different things from selling its product to film studios to raising funding for the film. The company is normally responsible for development of the product. Commonly actors form their own production companys so that they will then have a stronger say in their careers.

A distubuter is an organisation or a set of organisations who are involved in the process of making a product or service available for use or consumption by a consumer or business user.
4 - Who would be the audience for your media product? This is what i imagine an audience member would look like.

Teenage/ young adult aged 16 - 30 years old.
Mainly a Male scew as they will like the drama in the piece.
Women and men who are into psychology.
Women and men who look after children and research domestic violence.
5 - How did you attract/address your audience? 6- What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? 7- Looking back at your preliminary task (the continuity editing task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?
To attract our audience to our final piece we firstly used an opening scene which was relaxed, with an adult playing with a cute little girl, although not much happens in this scene it draws you in to see where it is going to go. The main character was an adult man, dresssed in normal fashionable 'dad' style clothes. This is because the main audience member would be an adult male. This is the camera which we used to film all our piece and the priliminary piece.

The camera is a Cannon Legria FS200.

For the use of the equipment we had to email our teacher and book the camera and stands that we needed, when we needed to film and when we needed to edit so we could capture the footage. For the title of our film, we decided on an idea, after doing research, that most people watching the film will realise that the piece is about the flashback which is triggered by the car falling. For this we decided

For the setting we chose to film our piece in a house, which is just a normal modern day house. This would show to the audience that in society it does go on behind closed doors infront of and to children every day. We chose the other member of the groups house, because the top of the staircase was a huge landing, which you can look across and see the child at the top of the stairs. We chose this because the camera work would look more professional, and have more varid camera shots and angles.

By doing our research we knew what costumes we needed, to be fashionable father type clothes. Our main inspiration was the father from Hide and Seek, because the story line was very similar to ours, and we wanted to attract the same audience.
This image shows the long shots we used to show the type of style the character is. It also sets the scene. The difference between the two projects shows the shadowing which we used lighting for in the final project and the how clear the shot it, however in the priliminary task the shots are not as clear and neither is the sound. This shot shows a two shot of the two main characters in both pieces, both having a conversation during the piece. In the final piece we had different shots from different angles to show the two characters moving around in an argument, this shows match on action. However in the first task we didnt not have any other angles showing movement. The editing in the final piece progressed and this shows. In the second screen grab there is the main character in our piece - Sam who is the son and also the little girl from Hide and Seek. These two children both see their fathers kill. Sam see's his father kill his mother, and the girl see's her father kill his new girlfriend and he tries to kill her, it also turns out that he did kill her mother. The facial expression on their faces show the scared lonely look. They both are wearing what normal 9 year olds would wear, this shows that people who see them will not suspect anything is wrong.

The two young children are shown in the film to show how different society has changed over the past few years, as now more and more children are witnesses to violence and domestic violence at younger ages. For our film we would have wrote to the film companys around our area and show the ideas we have and the storyboard. We would send this to many companys around the area to get funding for our film to be produced.

The titles at the end of our piece are of the two group members. I am director of the piece and this is presented by a simple title, we chose to do this with the other titles.

Our product would most likely be produced by 20th centuary fox as they produce films such as Hide and Seek, The Decent and The Hills Have Eyes. These are all Thrillers with big budgets.

Our film would be for the mass audience of teenage to adults of all classes, all across the country, which would bring in huge profits. This would mean that our film can be a high budget film as it will appeal to different classes and people worldwide. The editing needed to be continuity and flow smoothly. We took most of our time on editing to make the perfect opening sequence. We used transitions on Adobe Premiere to give it a more professional look. For the camera work we did the close ups and other angle shots seperatly and editied them together, so it was more camera skills then editing.

In the film a man would be playing with his daughter/niece when she drops a red toy car, this would trigger his flashback which shows his father brutally killing his mother. Due to this the film finishes with the man becoming psychologically distressed causing frantic movement turning into a psychological breakdown.

The main character is introduced straight away when he is playing with the little girl at the top of the stairs. We know when the car drops and it goes into his eye and out of a small boys eye, that the film is all about him, and he is our main character. This is a closer picture of the tripod without the camera on. Here you can see the handle which is how we moved the camera around so we got smoother shots than hand held.
To upload the video onto the blog we used youtube. This was very helpful as it was an easy way to upload and also for people to look at and give us feedback so we would improve. We used blogger to upload all of our research so that the teacher could see our progress. On our blog we also had deadlines so all would be able to see. It was useful to get ideas from other people and to also record our progress. The script was written for the audience of teenagers or young adults so that they would be able to understand the language, and in todays society people see more violence in streets and in their homes. Therefore people will be able to understand what is happening.
