Al Capone Born in Broklyn, on January 17, 1899 After working his way through kiddie gangs, he became a member of the FIVE POINTS GANG He allegedly insulted a guy's sister at a club. The guy gave him his famous four-inch facial scar. His nickname was "Snorky, which was given to him by his close friends and family. The Chicago suburb, Forest View, was nicknamed "Caponeville", because of his length of influence there. He had a headquarters in Chicago proper in the Four euces at 2222 S. Wabash, the Metropoole Hotel at 2300 S. Michigan Avenue, and the Lexington Hotel at 2135 S. Michigan Avenue. he lived in Chicago from 1919-1932 In 1927, he was worth $1000,000,000 to the U.S Government He spent 7 years in prison for tax evasion He died on January 25, 1947, due to numerous complications due to syphillis. Some people don't think he died of syphillis. Chicago was a bad time during the prohibition. For people like Capone, they made a fortune. In 1921, he had 8 breweries working full-time He had a leading role in the illegal activities that lent Chicago its reputation as a lawless city. His first arrest was for killing two people In 1918, he met an Irish girl named, Mary,. She had their son, Albert "Sonny" Francis. They got married December 30, 1918 He went to work for John Torrio He helped him manage his bootlegging business Torrio got shot by other gang members and left Chicago. Guess who became to new boss? Al Capone HE controlled bookie joints, gambling houses, brothels, horse and race tracks, and breweries. He had an income of $100,000,000 a year He was skillful at isolating and killing his enemies His worst killing was the St. Valentine's Day massacre 7 men were killed George "Bugs" Moran was the target The shooting took place at S.M.C Cartage Company Capone was hiding in Florida during the massacre Nobody was ever convicted
