From transducer to recorder inputs, there are a number of possible paths for the input signal, depending on the type of signal source. We'll focus on routing a microphone into Pro Tools.

Pro Tools HD is a Digital Audio Workstation used as an audio recording, editing and playback device. A Pro Tools HD system comprises the following component elements:
The Monitor Path:
Everything After the Recorder

Everything from the recorder's outputs to the listener's ears, with several amplitude controls along the way:

Advantages:

Disadvantages:

"Short Fader" and Direct Output
While it may not appear that the Trident has a "short fader" like the Audient, it does! It's a rotary fader instead of a linear fader:

You MUST engage this button in order for the "MON" knob to function as the "short fader!"

Remember to press this button to "arm" the track for recording!

No fader or other attenuation between mic pre and Pro Tools inputs.
