Catullus Poetry
Poem 1
by Myranda Munoz, Katherine Villacorta, and Kathryn Tripp

Once you used to say that you knew only Catullus,
Lesbia, nor would you want to have Jupiter before me.
I loved you then not so much as a common man loves his girlfriend,
but as a father if fond of his sons and sons-in-law.
Now i know you: and so although it burns me fiercely,
to me however you are very cheap and worthless.
How is that possible, you say? But such an injury
compels a lover to love more but to like less.

"A Perfectly Good Heart" by Taylor Swift
Why would you wanna break a perfectly good heart?
Why would you wanna take our love and tear it all apart, now?
Why would you wanna make the very first scar?
Why would you want to break a perfectly good heart?
It's not unbrokes anymore.
How do I get it back the way it was before?

-depict how they are heartbroken and will never be able to go back to the way theu were before
-they will never love the same again
-accuses them of ruining their lives

Poem 2

POem 6
Poem: "I hate and I love perhaps you ask why I do this? I don't know, but I feel it happening and I'm tortured."
Song: "Just gonna stand there and watch me burn. That's alright because I love the way it hurts. Just gonna stand there and hear me cry. But that's alright because I love the way you lie." (Eminem ft. Rihanna- love the way you lie)
both don't understand what they are feeling.
are hurting
Poem 7
Poem: "Miserable Catullus, stop being a fool and what you see to have been ruined, consider it so once bright suns shown on you. when you kept going wherever the girl led she was also loved by us as no one will ever be loved. when many joyous things were happening here which you wish for....and you Catullus endure stubbornly."
Song: "if you were dead or still alive i don't care don't care and all the things you left behind i don't care.
i try to make you see my side always try to stay in line but your eyes see right through."
broken hearted
hope the worst for their ex
near the end of the poem and song they both get more self-assured.
"He seems to me to be equal to a god, he, if it is permissible, seems to surpass the gods, who sitting opposite watches and listens To you again and again sweetly laughing, which rips out all senses from miserable me"
" for at the same moment I looked upon you, Lesbia, nothing is enough for me."
"Let us live, my Lesbia, and love .As for all the rumors of those stern old men, Let us value them at a mere penny."
"Nobody sees what we see, they're just hopelessly gazing"
"Suns may set and yet rise again, but Us, with our brief light, can set but once. One never-ending night must be slept"
"Your love is bright as ever, even in the shadows"
"Give me a thousand kisses, then a hundred.
" Your heart is glowing and I'm crashing into you baby kiss me"
Poem 8
My woman says that she would prefer to marry no one
other than me, not even if Jupiter himself asks her.
She says: but what a woman says to her eager lover,
she should write on wind and rushing water.

"Fall Back on You" by Taylor Swift
You always let someone come in between
You're talking round the truth and never say what you mean
Look at all this wasted time

-throughout the poem Catullus implies that Lesbia is untrustworthy
-the song refelecst this because it shows that the person avoids the truth and lies about things
-Lesbia never truly loved Catullus because she had other lovers
Poem #5
Poem #4
Furius and Aurelius, comrades of Catullus, whether he journeys to furthest India, whose shores are pounded by far-resounding Eastern waves, or whether he travels to soft Arabia, to Persia, Scythia, or the arrow-bearing Parthians
or the pains which are darkened by the seven mouths of the river Nile,
or whether he crosses the lofty Alps,
visiting the scene of great Caesar's triumphs, over the Rhine and the ocean, to Britain on the edge of the world, ready to join in any adventure,
whatever the will of the gods may brings, carry a few bitter words
to my girl May she live and fare well with her adulterers, Three hundred of whom she holds in an embrace at the same time,
Truly loving none, but again and again all of their Groins bursting.
Let her not await, as before, my love, Which has fallen due to her infidelity, just like a flower of the furthest end of the meadow, after it has been touched by a passing plow
There was a time
I thought, that you did everything right
No lies, no wrong
Boy I must've been out of my mind
So when I think of the time that I almost loved you
You showed your ass and I, I saw the real you

Thank God you blew it
I thank God I dodged the bullet
I'm so over you
So baby good lookin' out
I wanted you bad
I'm so through with that
'Cause honestly you turned out to be the (best thing I never had)
You turned out to be the (best thing I never had)
And I'm gonna' always be the (best thing you never had)
Oh yeah, I bet it sucks to be you right now

So sad, you're hurt
Boo hoo, oh, did you expect me to care
You don't deserve my tears
I guess that's why they ain't there
When I think that there was a time that I almost loved you
You showed your ass and baby yes I saw the real you
"And all I've seen since eighteen hours ago is green eyes and freckles and your smile"
"All I know is a new found grace All my days I'll know your face"
