WHAT IS VINTAGE?
Brand New China (BNC) is a concept shop which was opening in Beijing by famous publisher, editor and blogger Huang Hong of <ilook> magazine in 2010. It collects more than 100 Chinese independent designers’ products in their shop, such as shoes, clothes, accessories, bags and furniture.(Zhang Rui, 2012)

The Old Truman Brewery at 91 Brick Lane house a vibrant market where up-and-coming designers set up shop every Sunday selling a unique variety of clothes, handbags and jewellery. There are also vintage clothing stores and chic boutiques dotted around the area.

Albert Lafarge writes that one of the first American flea markets was the Monday Trade Days in Canton, Texas, which began in 1873 as a place where people would go to buy horses. Later, they brought their own goods to sell or trade.
On the other hand, A vintage market in nowadays is similar with flea market, but most of the merchandise are sold in the vintage market must from past (before 1980s).
As for China, with the development of Chinese economy, more and more Chinese students go to study at abroad. These students brought many vintage things from foreigner country, and some of them opened their own vintage shops. They also attract many costumers. So this culture is becoming more and more popular in China and the vintage market have a good chance to develop in China.

Nowadays, more and more vintage shops and second-hand shops even huge of online shops have been emerged in Chinese fashion market.

Most designer in BNC are use vintage elements into their design, some of them use Chinese traditional elements, some of them combine the Chinese traditional with the Western elements. So the vintage elements are playing important role in Chinese fashion market.
No matter in the make up style or in runway, the traditional elements influence the design and styles through the history and culture.
