Balfour Declaration- Britain supported creation of a Jewish state without violating the rights of the Arabs living there.
Nazi persecution led many Jews to flee to Israel
Britain limited Jewish Immigration in Israel due to the violence.
2 states; Jerusalem-International City
1948-Israel established

80% Jewish- Sephardic and Ashkenazi
20% Arab- Christian, Muslim, Druzes (Muslim)
Cooperation and Conflict:
1947- UN voted to create 2 separate states
(The Arab population refused to accept this decision)
May 1948- Israel Declares Independence (Immediately attacked by 5 neighboring Arab countries)
Palestinians-Gaza Strip, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon
PLO- Called for Israel's destruction
