Elements of Plot
What is the plot of a story?
The plot is the series of events in a story.
The plot is everything that happens from the beginning to the end.
Rising
Action
events leading to the climax: conflicts & suspense build!
Climax
The climax is the most exciting part in the story; EVERYTHING changes after this point!
Falling
Action
The details are wrapping up the story & lead to the end; conflicts are being resolved
Exposition
The exposition is the beginning of the story in which the characters and the setting are introduced.
Conflict
a problem or a struggle
Foreshadowing
Clues that hint to something that will happen in the FUTURE
Flashback
a look BACK at an event that took place in the past
Internal

"Duffy's Jacket"
No one has had to remind Duffy to remember anything for the past year.
Andrew, his mother, his sister, his aunt, and his cousin go camping.
The moms go into town and leave the kids alone.
The kids find "Beware the Sentinel" written on the wall.
The kids run outside to the barn to hide from whatever is chasing them, but it is locked!
The kids run back into the house, lock the door, and hide upstairs.
The Sentinel knocks the door down and comes upstairs.
The Sentinel finds the kids and corners them.
The Sentinel throws Duffy's jacket at him and calls him 'stupid'.
