Brian's Return By: Gary Paulsen Genre: Thoughtful Date written: September of 1999 Setting: In the wilderness by a lake Plot: Sixteen year old Brian Robeson does not like his life in the city. When he gets in a fight with a boy his age, he responds as if he were being attacked in the wild and badly injures the boy. He is stopped by the police and sent to a counselor named Caleb. After talking to Brian, Caleb realizes that there is nothing wrong with him. After talking for a while, Caleb makes Brian realize how much he misses the woods. Brian eventually realizes that he can't live in the city anymore. Point of view the story is told in is 3rd person Theme: Surviving in the wilderness Conflicts: Brian's family and friends want him to come home but he can't fit into society. Characters: Brian: a boy who has to go to a personal trainer and gets help from him. He also has to try to survive in the wilderness. Caleb: He is Brian's personal trainer. He also is blind, and is a retired police officer. Carl: He is a football player and his nickname is the "Hulk." Susan: is one of Brian's friends from school. His Parents: The take Brian to the airport so he can fly to Minneapolis.
