period 3 Fact: Angler fish got there name from the way there bodies were built. There mouth is the biggest thing on the fish! fossils: The anglerfish is not the normal flouresenrt colored fish you see in the ocean, it lives in the deepest darkest part of the ocean. There is more than 200 species of this fine creature. They are located in the Atlantic, and the Antartic oceans. Some live in Tropical places. They can reach up to 3.3 feet, but they are usually small its rare for them to be huge. They have a dorsal spine that goes above there mouths, it glows, which attracts prey. The female only has need for adaptation. The male does not because it evovled into a permenant parasitic mate. When a male seeks a female, he bites onto her with his sharp teeth, then overtime the male synces into the females skin. Once that happens the male looses his eyes and all his internal organs. One female angler fish can hold up to 6 or more males on her body. Overall, anglerfish have adapted somewhat to there environment. There bodies adapted they got smaller so that its easier to roam around the bottom on the ocean. There was a discorvery of a 15 million year old fossil in California of an angerfish, but nothing else has been found. so theres no trace of the angler fishes anestors. Biogeography: The scientific name for angler fish is "Melanocetus Johnsoni." But known to others as "Black devil," or The anglerfish. The anglerfish has a range of dark colors. Some of the colors are grey, orange, black, and brown. It's skin is soft and it has small sharp bones, with small pupils. It's skin has adapted to reflect blue light because there bioluminescent. Since the anglerfish has a widened body that slows it down somewhat so it sways. The angler fishes sharp teeth are angled inwards so that when they are eating prey it doesn't escape. The anglerfish can extend its body out to store food. The male anglerfish depends on a female anglerfish to nutruier them.Because when a male anlger fish matures, it's digestive system desinigrates. Therefore leaving the male to depend on the female to connect to or it will then die off. Once they mate the male dies off anyways and the female lays her eggs specifically 9 meters long across the ocean floor. Then, when the eggs hatch they turn into larvae and swim around the ocean eating plankton. But while there larvae they are not in the depth of the ocean. Once they mature is when they return to the deep dark ocean.
