Eric Carle was born in Syracuse, New York in 1929
At age 6, he moved with his parents to Germany but moved back to New York in 1952.
He has two children and wife who taught early education.
He also has a sister who is 21 years younger.

When did Eric Carle start illustrating?
Mid 1960's- He was asked to illustrate
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?
Shortly after that wonderful book, he decided to write his own stories for his illustrations.
Where do his ideas come from?
"What is outside and what is inside are the basic elements in constructing a story, in creating a painting, or in composing a piece of music. The outside may be an intellectual process or a quick, superficial impression that pushes a submerged emotion to the surface.
This process can also work in reverse."
How does he make his pictures?
Collage- He begins with blank tissue paper and paints it using acrylics.
He uses different strokes, brushes, and surfaces to create texture.
