Transcript of Big Data

Big Data Big Data evolved over time and continues to grow to a point where traditional data software tools like Excel now have difficulty managing, capturing and processing the "Monster" data, therefore companies like Oracle developed innovative big data management technologies. What is Big Data? FACTS:
Data has become so vast that:
Google estimates that the internet is 5 exabytes (1 exabyte = 1 million terabytes) of data
Global annual IP traffic alone is 667 exabytes Why was the technology developed? The technology is also developed because it is easy to overlook big data.
Companies can get overwhelmed by the constant growth of data. It was developed because the internet and data mining became so complex and integrated into our lifestyles that we needed innovative technologies to manage our big data. Where is the technology used? The technology is used in every single industry Entities like Oracle, Facebook, Google, Amazon, Walmart and Microsoft use big data management technologies such as Oracle/PeopleSoft, SAP and Polaris of the social genome project. What are its benefits? Information technology has advanced so much that we can utilize host-based networking, therefore creating thin clients. Thus, pervasive networking becomes more available to the world. More benefits are the creation of a new professional: the data scientist
Big data management also has the ability to save time by processing, managing and capturing data more efficiently. What are some challenges associated with using big data management technologies? loss of privacy and security Everything is so interconnected via internet that it is more difficult to keep things private and secure.
The Patriot Act has also made government snooping a legal activity. Big data management software is still not mature Because of the continuous and fast-paced growth of big data we still have much to innovate before we can meet the demands of big data. Big Data is not just to be managed and collected, but also analyzed Data is becoming more complex
Analyze data, not just collect it
Need to make sure data is correct and the information is available and accessible
Because of the growing complexity, it calls for a bigger and more developed IT Department Big Data is the Future! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_data
