Cell Dictionary By Julia W. Animal Cell a double layer of fat molecules that holds the contents of the cell in place and controls the movements of materials into and out of the cell Cell Membrane the idea that all living things are composed of one or more cells and all new cells arise only from cells that already exist Cell Theory Cell Wall a plant cell structure containing many molecules of a green pigment Chloroplast a structure in a cell that contains DNA or genetic information, which holds "construction plans" for all the pieces of the cell; the genetic information is duplicated and passed onto other identical cells Chromosomes Cilia a structure that protects and supports a plant cell Cytoplasm Endoplasmic Reticulum Diffusion tiny hairs that work to move a cell or fluid surrounding a cell a watery fluid that contains everything inside the cell membrane and outside the nucleus, where many of the cell's chemicals activities take place the movement of molecules from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration a cell structure that consists of a series of folded membranes that act as canals to carry materials through the cytoplasm cells that have a nucleus inside a nuclear membrane Eukaryotic
Cells the circle of light you see when you look through the eye piece of a microscope Field Of View a whip like tail that helps a cell move Flagellum packages proteins inside the cell before they are sent to their destination Golgi Apparatus an organelle formed bythe Golgi apparatus to control and clean the cytoplasm; contains special proteins used to break down large molecules into smallermolecules; also destroys damaged or worn-out cells Lysosomes living organisms that are too small to be seen with the unaided eye; usually composed of a single cell Mitochondria a cell structure in plant and animal cells that acts as the control centre and directs all of the cell’s activities Nucleus tiny structures with in the cytoplasm of a cell; specialized to carry out a function Organelles an individual living thing! Organism the diffusion of water through a selectively permeable membrane from an area of high water concentration to an area of low water concentration Osmosis Plant Cell a cell in which the nucleus is not surrounded by a membrane Prokaryotic
Cell a very small organelle that uses information from the nucleus and molecules from the cytoplasm to produce proteins Ribosomes referring to a membrane that allows certain substances to enter or leave Selective
Permeability a fluid-filled space in plant and animal cells that is used to store water and nutrients; also used to store waste and move waste and excess water out of the cell Vacuole Videos!!
