Transcript of leadership course culminating
Mario Andretti "What you persist in doing becomes easier. The task hasn't changed, your ability to do it has increased."
Ralph Waldo Emerson "It's not that I'm so smart. It's just that
I stay with problems longer."
Albert Einstein During my placement there were times when I did face challenges but with perseverance I excelled and surpassed the obstacles so that I could meet the next challenge. At first I was unsure of how the dynamic of being a 'student' leader would work. Would the students take me seriously? Another challenge that I faced was when I was asked to make photocopies for my placement teacher. The situation didn't go to smoothly, but in the end I got the photocopies and had a laugh with my placement teacher about it. Tactic: Be confident and assertive.
When faced with a situation where
you don't know the answer, ask. If a situation doesn't go as planned, there is no need to worry. Any problem can be solved as long as you persevere with kindness and respect. Legend:
Key to Success-
Remember for next time- One of the major assignments for the course was to plan your own event. During this process we ran into trouble when finding an event to plan. When we had our event it was a challenge getting into contact with other council leaders since teachers could not be involved. I learned from this course that to relieve stress and be productive you have to be proactive. Give yourself time to meet your goal, plan the steps you need to make to achieve the goal, and don't stop until your reach that goal. The best feeling is when your hard work pays off. On my birthday it was the best surprise when I walked in to the room to the whole class singing Happy Birthday. I really do hope that I left an impression on the students. When ever in times of doubt, especially when teaching you have to remember to not give up on your students; since when you finally make that break through it will all be worth it. Good things don't come easy. During the Holiday Bazaar it was amazing to see, hear and feel people having a good time because of something I helped organized. To have that hard work displayed in that hour of fun was definitely a shining moment in this course. Being active and involved in your community and environment not only leads to new experiences, and friends but success. You have to persist in all aspects of life. After I had my first opportunity to teach the class, it was really great to hear from my placement teacher that I had done an awesome job and had a natural knack for teaching. But even more rewarding then that, was the respect I was given by the students while I was teaching. Practice makes perfect. When teaching one of the best things to do is understand and know your material. With this knowledge you'll be confident when talking and really be able to engage and teach the students. In university and going forward in life, I need to surround myself with people who have life goals, and demonstrate perseverance. With this productive, positive environment I can continue to learn, grow, and develop perseverance. Friends and relationships have a key influence on your life and success. Choose healthy relationships and friendships. By continually challenging myself with new goals I will push myself to persevere in life. When setting goals, make sure that they are challenging but not unreachable. Perseverance is linked to all success. Whatever the goal, you need perseverance to achieve it. To be a good leader you have to lead by example; if people see you being persistent and demonstrating that you care, then they will follow in your foot steps and be successful students and leaders. To continue growing as a leader I need to put myself in situations where I can practice my leadership skills. Having a journal in which to document my experiences is a great way to ensure that I'm making progress and that I'm learning. Observing other peoples' leadership skills is a great way to learn new leadership tactics. By joining clubs and councils in university I will meet new people, become involved in my school, and create leadership opportunities for myself. During this course I have learned to quickly jot down my leadership experiences from each day, ensuring that I don't forget the days activities and can then later reflect and expand upon my quick notes. Surround yourself with people who are going to make you better. You can't expect someone to care if you don't. Be persistent in demonstrating that you are there for them and support them, then they will not want to let you down. Never give up. You have to fight for what you want, and what you believe in. Always remember the feeling of success but make sure you never forget the feeling of failure. steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement. "I'm convinced that about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance." -Steve Jobs
