Montgomery Bus Boycott
In 1955 Rosa Parks, an Afro-American woman was arrested for refusing to give her seat to a white person.

It has led a political and social protest campaign against the policy of racial segregation on the public transport system.
The Great March on Washington in 1963
Civil Rights Act of 1964
Afro -Amercians were:

denied the right to vote
barred from public facilities
subjected to insults and violence
could not expect justice from the courts
The legislation:
(1) protects them against discrimination in voter qualification test
(2)outlaws discrimination in hotels, motels, restaurants, theaters
(3)authorizing the U.S. Attorney General's Office to file legal suits to enforce desegregation in public schools
(4) outlaws discrimination in employment in any business
(5)creates an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to review complaints
