Transcript of Cell Theory

The Cell Theory So, what is it? The cell theory states:
1. All living things are made up of cells
2. The cell is the basic unit of life
3. Cells arise from pre-existing cells What are humans made up of?
What are animals made up of?
This is a mystery that, back in the day, scientists struggled to find an answer to.
But, thanks to seven amazing scientists, a theory was developed.
A theory so complete, that it still is being used today... So, how was it thought up?
Well, let us go back in time... Zacharias Janssen developed the first basic single lens microscope, along with his father Hans.
At that time, eyeglasses were gaining popularity, which led to the investigation of the lenses. 1595 1653 Robert C. Hooke develops his own microscope after being commisioned by King Charles II of England, and found little particles as he looked at a cork under a 50x microscope. He coined the word 'cell' 1680 Anton Van Leeuwenhoek observes living organisms out of pure curiosity under a simple microscope, where he discovers blood cells of a fish and describes the nucleus.

He was the first to discover bacteria, and also protists. So, how is it important to us today? 1838 Matthias Schleiden discovered that plants were made up of cells; from this, he developed the cell theory. Works Cited

Theodor Schwann discovered that animals also have cells, and finally truly proposed the idea of the cell theory. 1839 In the university of Berlin, Rudolf Virchow develops the cell pathology theory, where all cells are made from other cells. 1855 1903 August Weismann develops the theory of the body being divided up into 'germ cells', with which can transmit hereditary information. Today, many diseases regarding cells and their levels have arisen, and without the study of cells and the cell theory, it wouldn't be possible to determine the disease, and also not possible to understand the chances of it being passed down.
