NEVER GIVE UP
TALK NO. 1 : EVANGELIZATION AND SPIRITUAL WARFARE
A. The situation in the world today
1. There are two kingdoms opposed to each other -- the kingdom of darkness and the kingdom of light.
2. Jesus has mounted a rescue operation, an attack against Satan’s kingdom.
3. All people are born into this battle for the hearts, minds, and souls of men.
4. Being combatants, we need weapons and protection. We need means for offense and defense
B. OUR SPIRITUAL
WEAPONS
God gives us the following offensive weapons:
1. Commitment (to Christ’s cause).
2.
Zeal.
Singlemindedness of purpose.
Perseverance.
3. The Word of God.
4. Spiritual gifts.
C. OUR PROTECTION
1. Truth. Protection against lies and errors.
2. Justice, or righteousness. Protection against evil and sinful desires.
3. Gospel of peace. Protection against an easy and lazy life.
4. Faith. Protection against unbelief.
5. Salvation.
6. Word of God.
7. Prayers.
D. CONCLUSION
Four points to stress:
1. Guard against two extremes:
(1) the view that there is no devil, and
(2) the view that all negative things or happenings are attributable to the devil.
2. Remember that Jesus has already won the victory in this fight against Satan. And the God who enlists us in his army also trains, equips, and leads us.
3. We have power to rout the devil, but such is premised on our submission to God.
* Importance of righteousness, faith, dependence on God.
4.As good soldiers, we can expect hardships and difficulties. We are to bear them and overcome them.
When you accepted Jesus as Lord, you signed up for God’s army. In this war, there are no non-combatants. Since the time you joined SFC, you have been in boot camp, being trained for the fight against Satan.
Now we are having a CLP. A major battle is on!
1 John 5:19

19 We know that we are God’s children, and that the whole world lies under the power of the evil one.

Ephesians 6:12
12 For our[a] struggle is not against enemies of blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5

3 Indeed, we live as human beings,[a] but we do not wage war according to human standards;[b] 4 for the weapons of our warfare are not merely human,[c]
but they have divine power to destroy strongholds.
We destroy arguments 5 and every proud obstacle raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ.

Matthew 7:3-5

3 Why do you see the speck in your neighbor’s[a] eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your neighbor,[b] ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ while the log is in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your neighbor’s[c] eye.
2 Corinthians 5:15

15 And he died for all, so that those who live might live no longer for themselves, but for him who died and was raised for them.

Philippians 3:7-8

7 Yet whatever gains I had, these I have come to regard as loss because of Christ. 8 More than that, I regard everything as loss because of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and I regard them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ

Ephesians 6:17

17 Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Hebrews 4:12

12 Indeed, the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

1 Thessalonians 1:5

5 because our message of the gospel came to you not in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction; just as you know what kind of persons we proved to be among you for your sake.

Spiritual Gifts
12 Now concerning spiritual gifts,[a] brothers and sisters,[b] I do not want you to be uninformed. 2 You know that when you were pagans, you were enticed and led astray to idols that could not speak. 3 Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says “Let Jesus be cursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except by the Holy Spirit.
4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. 7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8 To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses.

Ephesians 6:13-18

13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness. 15 As shoes for your feet put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace. 16 With all of these,[a] take the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert and always persevere in supplication for all the saints.

Hebrews 13:5-6

5 Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have; for he has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” 6 So we can say with confidence,
“The Lord is my helper;
I will not be afraid.
What can anyone do to me?”

James 4:7

7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

2 Timothy 2:3

3 Share in suffering like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
